Gateshead based RTR Handelsgesellschaft have appointed Mr. Raimo Roos as their business manager in Australasia. The independent pressure parts supplier needed an experienced steel industry professional to represent its interest in the region.

“We are delighted to have Raimo on our team,” said Philip Ross, the managing director and co-owner of RTR Handelsgesellschaft. “A senior pressure parts estimator, he knows the industry extremely well and will help us gain access to this exciting market. Raimo has also a lot of international expertise and therefore will be a great asset to the overall company and are very happy that he joined our team.”

Originally from Finland, Raimo as a young man found himself in Nairobi, Kenya having followed his brother there. During his tenure there spanning a dozen or more years, first with a Danish owned Stainless steel Brewery equipment manufacturer, and later with Motor Mart Group of companies owned by Lonhro group as a vessel shop manager.  He worked on projects not only in Kenya but also in Uganda and Tanzania.

In early Eighties he moved with his British born wife to Edmonton, Canada and worked there as a chief estimator for Edmonton based pressure vessel and process tower fabricator for two years prior moving to Vancouver, BC and took a position with a large paper and pulp mill equipment manufacturer as a workshop supervisor.

In 1993 the family emigrated to Australia and once again Raimo had the opportunity to work with his brother in the Aluminium Louvre manufacturing business he had established in Perth, WA.

A year later they moved to Brisbane on the East coast and was engaged by RCR Energy, an integrated engineering group providing complete engineering solutions to mining, power generation and oil & gas industries as an engineering estimator. In 2005 he relocated to Newcastle in New South Wales to replace a retiring senior estimator within the RCR Energy. 7 years later they re-located back to Brisbane, where he is based today.

Philip Ross added: “We have been very fortunate in the past few years to grow our client base for quality products, engineering expertise and supply chain capability. Our long-established relationships with partners in Europe and our own network of RTR offices has enabled us to satisfy their needs and deliver large projects on schedule. We would like to take this capability to other overseas markets.”
